There’s a new sound coming out of Cleveland – it’s smooth, it’s honest, and it’s….French Donkey? That’s right – veteran Cleveland rockers Chris Donley and Scott Paris have a musical love letter for the world on this Valentine’s Day with their double full-length album Make Gold, and it’s filled with mellow melodies and harmonies that would put a smile on most anyone’s face! If you’re a fan of alternative rock from the 90s, vocal harmonies, sweet acoustic guitar chords and driving beats, you’re in for a treat with this album. Paris and Donley trade off lead and backing vocals on songs like “All the Way” and “Enough Money”. Donley’s higher vocal range works well when harmonizing with Paris, whose slightly lower register calls to mind the vocal style of 90s stalwarts such as Screaming Trees‘ Mark Lanegan or Dave Navarro of Janes’ Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers fame.
It’s music that’s appropriate for a sunshine-filled day or hanging out with loved ones, because although the tunes have some aural relationship with the 90s, French Donkey takes its inspiration more from the brighter parts of alternative rock, rather than an over-saturation of angst.
The album is available for sale starting today on iTunes and Amazon Music. If you prefer to get your music straight from the artists themselves, you’ll have a great chance this Friday Feb. 19, 2017 at Jilly’s Music Room in Akron for the official Make Gold album release party, with a performance by the duo set to start at 8 PM with no covers at the door, just great tunes to warm you up. We give this album a hearty two thumbs up, definitely worthy of checking out!
