On July 7, the award-winning Cleveland rockers Via the Sun stopped by the studio of The Rock on 88.7 WJCU again, this time with guitars in hand to rock out an acoustic set on the radio! If you missed the show that night, you’ve come to the right place – follow the links to listen to both the interview with the band and live performances of the songs “Grateful” and “Bad Roots”.

The band is promoting their new acoustic album Parallels, which features acoustic versions of songs from their album Theatrics, which was released last year. The album also features a brand-new songs “All the Way Home”, and “Alone”.

According to Via the Sun bassist Mark Gordon, the band chose the songs that seemed easiest to translate to acoustic versions – which isn’t to say that the process of the album was ‘easy’ by any means. The band just felt the urge to try something different, stated frontman Chris Donley, but was never able to stop working on a song until lead guitarist Steve Simbeck felt it good enough! Guitarist Derek Hatfield added at that point that it’s certainly a good thing to have a perfectionist like Steve in the group because he really pushes everyone to bring their best efforts to the table.

Donley went on to add that the band is in the process on working on their follow-up to Theatrics, which featured the song “Cliff Diver”, winner of Scene Magazine’s best song of 2011 award. According to the singer/guitarist, the unnamed album will take Via the Sun in an even heavier direction than before – certainly something to look forward to!
