The Rockstar Mayhem Fest is coming to Cleveland in the tour’s fifth year, for a show at Blossom Music Center on July 25. This year’s slate of performing bands is particularly promising, with thrash stalwarts Slayer and Anthrax amongst the headliners.
Pretty awesome, right? I would say so. Slayer is one of the founding fathers of thrash, and remain perhaps its truest purveyor, especially amongst the “Big Four” of metal bands (Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer). While the rest of the Big Four went in other musical directions in the last 15-20 years, Slayer stayed true to its (ridiculously heavy and brutal at all times). Okay, actually, check that – they did slow the tempo down a bit with 1990’s Seasons in the Abyss, if not the level of heavy. Still, one would have a hard time arguing that the band went completely thrashless on that album – “War Ensemble”, anyone?
Speaking of heavy, Slayer’s new vid for “World Painted Blood” is as metal as it gets – South Park-style cutout animation never looked this brutal! Check it out below, along with a track from Anthrax’s new album Worship Music. Rockin.
And don’t forget to mark that date on your calendar! July 25 at Blossom. The main stage will feature Slayer, Slipknot, Anthrax and another act that will be announced on March 5. The rest of the festival will feature a rotation of As I Lay Dying, The Devil Wears Prada, and Asking Alexandria – mayhem indeed!
